My
memorable trip to Bhubaneswar -The temple city of India
I
had a beautiful and memorable trip to Bhubaneswar (Capital of Odisha). I went
there during my summer vacation of 2018 along with my parents. It was a 4 day
trip. We travelled to Chennai from Puducherry by a city bus, and then took a local train
to reach Chennai International Airport. From there we took a flight to Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik
International airport and then we reached the guest house in Arya Village. It
was a beautiful guest house where the cook served us delicious and traditional
Odiya food which I gulped sumptuously glutton to my heart’s delight.
First Day
On
the first day we took a local bus to roam around the city. We traversed through
Rajpath road, Janpath road, Ekamra marg
and Nandan kanan road. The roads were very clean and beautiful which housed
many important offices, educational
institutions, malls, retail shops, smart parks for kids etc. They have
well-ordered parking and traffic systems built on the latest technologies. No wonder! Bhubaneswar is India`s No 1
Smart city.
Second Day
On
the second day we did a local sight-seeing. We visited Udaygiri and Khandagari caves. It is believed that most of these
caves were carved out as residential blocks for Jain monks during the 1st century BCE. Then we visited Lingaraj temple and also a beautiful
lake which is located near the temple. Also we visited Mukteshwar temple, Raja Rani temple and Parshurama temple. These temples represent beautiful and rich Kalinga architecture which were built
in 11th century. Bhubaneswar hosts
around 700 temple’s thereby earning the tag – “Temple city of India”.
Third Day
On
the third day we visited Puri Jagganath
temple which is famous for its Rath
Yatra. Jagganath, Balabadra and Subhadra are the main deities worshipped
here. From there we went to Golden beach
and played in the water for nearly an hour. 35 kms away from Jagganath temple
is Konark Sun temple which is
dedicated to Sun God. The temple
complex has the appearance of a 100-foot (30 m) high chariot with immense
wheels and horses, all carved from stone. Its geometrical patterns and carved
wheels were used to serve as sundials. One can witness three images of Sun God
across three directions to catch the rays of the sun at dawn, noon and sunset.
It was built in 13th Century during the reign of Narasingha Deva. Konark is considered one of the greatest
architectural marvels of the Indian subcontinent.
Fourth
& Final Day On our fourth day we
visited Dhauli, Dhauli hill is
presumed to be the area where the Kalinga War was fought. The place was
located on a hilltop where we sat and relaxed looking over the breath taking
view of the city. As the twilight was fast approaching, a semblance of
nostalgia started to creep in me. It was nothing but the feeling of love that
I started to have for the city. The city though being the Capital of Odisha,
still had the feel of our small town
Puducherry with all the
attractions of a big city. |

During
the entire trip we took lots of photos. The four days were like (as my parents
called) the most exclusive & delightful tour in a long period starting from
the yummy Odisha`s traditional sweet dishes Chenna Poda, Pahala Rasagollas, Enduri Pitha, Pakhla to bellyful Abadha
etc. Remembering the names of these dishes, I have started to salivate.
The
next day we took an early morning flight back to Chennai & then reached
Puducherry by bus. On the whole, the tour was a memorable, highly enriching & educating one.
I
long very much to go back to the “Temple city of India”
